Flores Breakfast and Lunch: The Breakfast Tacos Dripping Springs Keeps Coming Back For

A bachelor party, a local friend's recommendation, and the breakfast tacos that became one of my favorite parts of living in Dripping Springs.

I stopped at Flores Breakfast and Lunch for breakfast tacos the other day, and it brought me back to my very first experience with Dripping Springs.

Before my wife and I built our life here, before I knew the neighborhoods or had my own routines around town, I came out for a friend's bachelor party. That trip introduced me to the Hill Country, a town I would eventually call home, and what are still, to me, the best breakfast tacos I've ever had.

My first visit to Dripping Springs

It was New Year's Eve in 2020. My good friend Zach was having his bachelor party, and we were staying at a house in Howard Ranch.

Looking back, it's funny that Howard Ranch was part of my first introduction to this area. At the time, I was just there to celebrate a friend and enjoy a few days in the Hill Country.

We explored Dripping Springs, bought fireworks off Highway 290, and went to Hill Country Ranch Pizzeria. I remember thinking, “Dang, this town is awesome.”

I had no idea my future wife and I would eventually build our life here.

The next morning, we wanted breakfast tacos.

The local who knew where to go

Our friend Richard was a Dripping Springs local and a graduate of the high school. When breakfast came up, he knew exactly where he wanted to take us.

He told us about a little taco shack off Highway 290 near the high school that had the best breakfast tacos he'd ever had.

That's a strong recommendation, especially coming from a lifelong Texan. But he knew the town best so we rolled with it.

The place was Flores Breakfast and Lunch, which I also know affectionately as Flores #1.

Richard was right.

That first breakfast taco was the best I'd ever had. All these years later, Flores #1 is still my personal favorite.

Why Flores has stayed with me

If you're a Texan, you probably understand why someone would devote an entire article to breakfast tacos.

We have opinions. We have our places. And when a friend tells us they've found the best breakfast taco around, we want to try it for ourselves.

For me, Flores has the added connection of being part of my first visit to Dripping Springs. I can't separate that first breakfast from the rest of the trip: celebrating Zach, exploring the Hill Country, and discovering how much I liked this town.

Now I get to live here, and stopping for those same breakfast tacos is one of the simple joys of my week.

We didn't move to Dripping Springs for Flores breakfast tacos. But I certainly appreciate having them nearby.

What to order at Flores Breakfast and Lunch

My personal favorite is the Hillary. If you're trying Flores for the first time and want my recommendation, that's where I'd start.

A lot of people also love the Mighty Tiger, a name that feels especially fitting with Dripping Springs High School right next door. Breakfast tacos beside the home of the Tigers? That's about as Dripping Springs as it gets.

Where to find Flores Breakfast and Lunch

Flores Breakfast and Lunch is listed at 920 West Highway 290, Dripping Springs, TX 78620. Its listed phone number is 512-858-9346, but I usually order via the app.

This is the Highway 290 taco stop I'm talking about throughout this story.

Check the Flores Breakfast and Lunch website or call before heading over for current hours and menu availability. It is closed Wednesdays.

My recommendation is simple: if you haven't tried it, put it on your breakfast list. I'll let you decide where it falls in your own breakfast taco rankings.

One of the simple joys of living in Dripping Springs

When I think about what makes a place feel like home, experiences like this come to mind.

A friend introduces you to a local spot. You love it. Years later, you're still going back, and now you get to introduce someone else to it.

That's part of what I want to share through these local features. Alongside information about homes and neighborhoods, I want people to get to know the everyday places that have made living here meaningful to me.

If you're getting acquainted with the area, my Explore Dripping Springs guide is another place to start.

And if you see me picking up breakfast tacos at Flores, now you know how that started.

Richard, you were right. Great rec.
